Raw Food Retreats

Raw Food Retreats

One of the most powerful ways to transform your health and life is to start eating a diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables – and attending one or a series of raw food retreats is a great way to get started.

The Major Benefits of  attending one or more Raw Food Retreats Include:

  • Stepping out of your daily life and, by association, your daily eating habits
  • Distancing yourself from stressful situations that can lead to emotional eating
  • Getting inspired at the variety of foods, gourmet and simple, that can be created using 100% raw, fresh ingredients
  • Meeting like minded people who share similar values
  • Learning how to prepare some amazing raw food meals
  • Getting more energy and feeling healthier
  • Establishing positive health habits that will keep you younger and healthier longer.

What To Consider As You Research Raw Food Retreats

There are many factors to keep in mind as you look for the raw food retreat this is perfect for you in this moment of your life.    As you look into raw food retreats I recommend that you keep these questions in mind.

What kind of food will be served?   – Of course, all raw food retreats should include only non-cooked ingredients.   Beyond that some raw food retreats will be 100% vegan or vegetarian and others will include raw meats, dairy and eggs.   My personal feeling is that vegetarian raw food retreats are the most powerful in terms of helping the body heal and establishing positive eating habits.

What is the level of the retreat? – Some raw food retreats will simply be more appropriate for beginners than others.   If you are a beginning raw food enthusiast, you should consider choosing a retreat that takes your specific needs into account.     Some people, as they move to eat 100% raw, experience moderate detox symptoms like headaches, or nausea.   In those cases it may be more appropriate to start off with 80% raw food.   Most raw food retreats will advertise that they are 100% raw, but do check if there is some flexibility in the program.

Is the retreat individual or group? -  Raw food retreats can either be done at a center on an individual basis or in a group setting.    I have done and led both of them and feel that in 95% of the cases, group raw food retreats are superior.   Having a group with you on retreat helps you to stay with the program and provides automatic support.

What other activities are involved? – In group oriented raw food retreats it’s common to find bodywork sessions, outdoor activities, yoga, meditation and other types of interesting events.    If the program is set up well, these extra events can be very supportive to a positive outcome.

What is the setting? – Raw food retreats are best when set at a peaceful center surrounded by beautiful natural features.   As you learn a new lifestyle that values connection with nature, there’s nothing better than being part of it.

What To Expect From Attending A Raw Food Retreat

One thing to keep in mind is that 7 days or 2 weeks or even a month long raw food retreat is not going to magically “make everything in your life better.”  Well designed raw food retreats provide a great foundation and building block for a lifetime of healthy eating habits and positive thinking.   You should leave a retreat inspired and positive about the future – and hopefully super motivated to keep eating raw as much as possible.   Other things that can happen on raw food retreats are that you lose weight, boost your energy, increase your confidence, learn more about your body and how it works and meet other incredible people.

Some Final Words On Raw Food Retreats

I’ve been eating a diet of 95% raw foods since 2001 and   I have to say that nothing has changed my health and attitude more than improving what I feed myself.  That experience led me to start teaching raw food classes in New Zealand in 2004.  Out of those classes grew my first raw food retreats in 2005.   Since then I’ve been offering classes and retreats regularly.     These events are always a highlight experience for me and the participants.   There’s just something so powerful about a raw food retreatsgroup of people meeting with common goals and purposes focused on health and inspiration through raw foods.
