Raw Banana Parsley Melody Fruit Smoothie

Melody Fruit

I think that one of the most important components to a successful raw vegan diet is unbridled creativity. Having less ingredients and techniques to work with means that you have to be able to think outside the box if you want to keep things fresh in the kitchen. Smoothies and juices are probably the easiest places to start when it comes to experimentation in raw cuisine. The infinite possibilities, ease of preparation, and ability to fix almost any creation gone wrong are just a few of the appealing aspects of getting creative with your blender. Whenever I want to invent something new quickly I just use whatever ingredients I have and go wild. Here is my latest creation. Enjoy.

Notes :

– You’ve probably never heard of the melody fruit before. I’m not even certain that is its real name. I can’t find much information about it online. One questionable source claims that it is an Indonesian version of the Pepino Melon, and while the two show several similarities in appearance, they differ considerably in taste and texture. In any case, it is almost identical to cucumber in taste and texture, so don’t go on a wild goose hunt for it, just replace it with cucumber if you want to try this recipe. The harmony of the banana and parsley will remain melodious. I’m just unusually interested by strange tropical fruit and it happened to be at the supermarket this week.

– I might add some avocado next time to make it creamier and diversify its nutritional profile by adding some omega-3 fatty acids. Coconut meat would also be a nice addition.

– Apple cider vinegar is probably better suited for soups than smoothies in terms of taste, but one of the great aspects of smoothies is that it is really easy to add small amounts of potentially unharmonious ingredients that boost nutritional value without compromising taste. This was the first time I put it in a smoothie and I was a tad afraid that even a small amount would ruin the taste, since it has quite a strong flavor. Luckily my fears did not come to fruition. The highly alkalizing effects of apple cider vinegar make it a great addition to any smoothie, as it will insure you get the most out of all the nourishing vitamins and minerals in the other ingredients.
