A Freesh Ball is like an energy or bliss ball, except much Freesher. They provide energy, bliss and Freeshness. So really they’re like 3 times as awesome. This recipe was actually created in one of my courses with the help of a lovely group of students. It turned out great. These are ready instantly, and can be refrigerated to make the texture denser. They are gooey right off the bat and get chewy in the fridge after a couple hours. And of course Crunchy both ways. And always delicious.
Normally I prefer to use more natural, widely available, and, well, cheaper ingredients to flavor my food. However, there are certain types of dishes that get taken to that next level with the addition of some Essential Oils or Essences. I’ve used some of both in this recipe. Peppermint Essential Oil and Hazelnut Essence. Two of my favorites. Definitely worth the investment. They last for ages and have a myriad of uses. Particularly the mint one, which I use in my homemade toothpaste and deodorant.
[amd-zlrecipe-recipe:26] Mint Essential Oil and Hazelnut Essence are the two concentrated flavorings that I use most frequently. Here’s why :
- Mint Leaves are delicious, but a lot of them are required to get a strong flavor, particularly in dishes like this with strong competing flavors (chocolate, namely) and they are a pain in the butt to pick. The taste from the essential oil is also stronger. Well worth shelling out the extra dough.
- Raw Hazelnuts don’t quite provide the same intensity of flavor as the roasted ones do. The Medicine Flower Hazelnut Essence I use does. The Nutella (hazelnut and chocolate) flavor is one of my all time favorites and with this ingredient I can nail it easily.
Cacao Powder makes a really nice garnish too
