Raw Smoky Siesta Wraps

I wanted to post this recipe right now because I’m writing a song called “Everything’s Better in a (W)rap” – which is so true. A Wrap can also take a couple dishes that would otherwise not work on their own, and transform them into a complete meal. This is one of those.


And a Rap can take any old instrumental and turn it into something magical. 

I love me some salsa. And I also love to completely step outside the lines of what salsa is. So sometimes I make things that are similar to certain types of salsa (this one would be comparable to traditional chunky Mexican salsa, as opposed to the more dip/sauce like American version), but have totally different flavors. And then I think, “hmmmm, what to name this unique piece of Freesh?”


A Tango! Yes lets name our food crazy things and have a jolly good time doing so 🙂

And then I wanted to throw some Asian flavor into the mix. So it’s got some ethnic cuisine fusion going on. Plus liquid smoke is delicious. Not Raw, but it only takes a tiny amount to bring some powerful flavor and variety to the mix. These can work as an appetizer or as a main course. Enjoy!

Raw Smoky Siesta Wraps 




Wraps & Filling

Chinese Cabbage (one big head will be more than enough)

Alfalfa Sprouts (a cup or two should do – oh dip that shit rhymed!)


 Wow, Alfalfa Sprouts are so preettttyyyyy

Smoky Mushroom Miso Sauce

1 1/8 cup of Peeled, Chopped & Stems Removed Button Mushrooms

1 tsp Lemon Juice

4 tsp Dark Miso

1 tsp Bragg’s

a Pinch of Salt

¼ – ½ tsp Liquid Smoke*

2 tsp Olive Oil

1 tsp Toasted Sesame Oil**

2 tsp Honey

1 tsp chopped Sand Ginger (Otherwise known as Aromatic Ginger or Kencur)***

1 tbsp Chopped Onions

¼ cup Water

*Depending on how much you like the taste of liquid smoke, use accordingly. Personally I love it so I go with ½ tsp but it’s quite strong so I suggest if you’ve never tried it before use ¼ tsp and see how you like it. Also not Raw (see below).

**Obviously not Raw, but a tiny amount of a cooked ingredient can make a huge difference in flavor. Plus good Toasted Sesame Oil in moderate amounts can still be part of a healthy diet 🙂

***If you can’t get this ingredient just use regular ginger

It’s Not Salsa, so I’m Calling it Tango

1 tbsp Chopped Onions

½ cup Diced Cucumber

½ cup Diced Tomato

¼ cup Broccoli Florets

1-2 tsp Lemon Juice*

2 ½ tsp Minced Garlic

1-2 tsp Red Wine Vinegar*

1 tsp Salt

½ tsp Black Pepper

¼ cup Shredded Carrot

1/3 cup Diced Yellow Pepper

2 tbsp Olive Oil

¼ tsp Chili Powder

1 tsp Dried Basil

1 tsp Dried Oregano

*Once you check out a good number of my recipes you’ll notice that I reeeaaallllyyyy like sourness! Funnily enough I hated warheads when I was a kid. Bonus points if you remember those things. So I usually use 2 tsp of Lemon Juice and Red Wine Vinegar in this recipe, and it is pretty sour. Adjust accordingly.


  1.  Blend all Smoky Mushroom Miso Sauce Ingredients until smooth.
  2.  Mix all Tango Ingredients well in a bowl.
  3.  Put some Alfalfa Sprouts in a Chinese Cabbage Leaf.
  4.  Add Tango on top and follow with Smoky Mushroom Miso Sauce.
  5.  Let me Rap my Rap while you Wrap your Wrap and chow down on this Ridiculiciousness.

Serves 2-3 as main or 4-6 as appetizer
